It was enrolled on UNESCO world´s cultural and natural heritage list in 1993. The history of the castle is rich. The castle rock was populated in early and late Stone Age. The Spis Castle is one of the most attractive touristic localities. It is accessible to visitors and suitable for museum and presentation purposes with progressively spreading services and cultural events. There are few other possibilities especially in using outdoor spaces (concerts, theatres, festivals). The main part of well-preserved buildings is situated in the upper castle with an interesting Renaissance arcadian corridor that dates back to 16th and 17th century. It connected west gothic palaces, defence parts and chapel. Nowadays it is a showroom with the exhibition of defence weapons and archaeological inventions. A torture chamber, medieval kitchen, bedroom, bathroom as well as armoury are also parts of the showroom. Since 2002 the Spis Castle is illuminated at night so that visitors are offered an incredible experience.
